BIOGRAPHY
Dr Ling is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery, with particular expertise in Achilles tendinopathy and sports-related injuries. As Head of the Foot and Ankle Clinical Team at Prince of Wales Hospital since 2018, he has established a robust clinical program within the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at CUHK, where he works under the chairmanship of Prof. Patrick Yung.
Academic Credentials
Dr Ling obtained his MBChB from CUHK and his ChM from the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Research Contributions and Publications
A prolific researcher and educator, Dr Ling has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters across leading journals and academic platforms. His publications span his core areas of clinical and research focus, establishing him as a recognised authority in his field. Beyond his written contributions, he has delivered over 150 papers and lectures at international conferences, significantly advancing the evidence base in the orthopaedic and sports medicine literature. His research team has been recognised with numerous local and regional awards.
Clinical Specialisation
Dr Ling's clinical expertise encompasses Achilles tendinopathy, hallux valgus, ankle instability, and regenerative medicine applications in orthopaedic surgery. His systematic approach to complex foot and ankle pathology is informed by advanced training with internationally distinguished surgeons, including Dr Lui (North District Hospital, Hong Kong), Dr Ferkel (Southern California Orthopedic Institute, Los Angeles), Dr de Prado (FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence, Murcia, Spain), Prof Hintermann (Kantonsspital Baselland, Liestal, Switzerland), Dr Vega and Dr Rabat (University of Barcelona and Hospital Quiron, Barcelona), and faculty at Jishuitan Hospital, Beijing. He received the SH Ho Visiting Professorship to Stanford University in 2023 and served as the APKASS-SLARD Travelling Fellow in 2024, visiting Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.
Sports Medicine and Team Physician Experience
In addition to his foot and ankle surgical practice, Dr Ling is an accomplished sports medicine physician with extensive experience serving as the Hong Kong team physician for major multi-game events, bringing orthopaedic expertise to elite athlete management and care. He maintains weekly clinics at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, providing ongoing medical supervision for Hong Kong's elite athletes across all sports. His sports medicine research focuses on sports injury epidemiology, return-to-play assessment protocols, and injury surveillance systems, contributing to evidence-based approaches to athlete health and injury prevention. He currently serves as Club Team Doctor for Kitchee Sports Club, maintaining active involvement in elite sports medicine practice.
