After attending the 2017 Hong Kong International Wrist Arthroscopy Workshop and Seminar, I was invited for a three week clinical visit to Dr PC Ho and the O & T Hand unit at Prince of Wales Hospital.
It has been three very rewarding weeks. The workshop was extraordinary, with an impressive international faculty that was eager to discuss and instruct. Following that the visit to the hand unit has widened my experience. It is interesting to compare similarities and differences between how we deal with medical problems in Hong Kong and Sweden. Much is the same, but some methods differ and Dr Ho and his colegues are higly skilled and take an interest in sharing their experience. One difference between our departments is the focus on education. Most of the work at the Hand Unit is performed as a team, in comparison to my own department in Sweden where we often work alone. The team organisation gives rich posibilities for teaching and discussion.
I have special interest in arthroscopic wrist surgery and was especially interested in the procedures of arthroscopic bone grafting of scaphoid non-unions and CMC-I arthroscopy with hemitrapezoidectomy for thumb arthritis. Two treatment methods I intend to bring home and start performing in my own department.
I'd like to extend a great thank to Prince of Wales Hospital and Dr Ho with collegues for this very interesting visit and for all the warm hospitality and friendship.
