Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival 2024

Congratulations to our colleagues for winning three awards—one gold medal and two silver medals—at the Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival 2024.


The Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival brings together innovators from 40 countries and regions to showcase interesting inventions in the US. The festival is under the patronage of the City of Santa Clara, the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). SVIIF was created to publicise state-of-the-art inventions from around the world and provide a unique opportunity for inventors to receive not only high-ranking international awards for their inventions but also to cultivate the American market in the heart of inventions, Silicon Valley.

CUHK Croucher Summer Course 2024
Sports Biomechanics

Supported by the Croucher Foundation and a lineup of internationally acclaimed experts in Sports Biomechanics, the CUHK Sports Biomechanics Croucher Summer Course was held from 22 – 26 July 2024.

This course aims to provide a platform for both international and local researchers working on biomechanics in the fields of orthopaedics, sports medicine, and sports science to bring together known best practices, the latest technological advances, and new evidence-based research.

CUHK Sports Biomechanics Research Summit 2024

With the latest technological advancements and recent innovations in sports biomechanics, this 2-day research summit aims to provide a platform for international researchers working on biomechanics in the field of sports medicine and sport science to gather their known best practices, latest technological advances, and new evidence-based research. Most importantly, it provides a good opportunity for both local and international early-career researchers to present their latest achievements, and explore new research directions and collaborations around the world.

This summit includes seven thematic areas: Biomechanics of ankle sprain and instability, Computational biomechanics and wearable technology to measure ankle biomechanics, Ankle and footwear biomechanics in dance and running, Biomechanics of the shoulder joint in sports, CUHK Project Presentation, Biomechanics of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury & Biomechanics of knee osteoarthritis and replacement.

CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2024

The CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2024 was held from September 27 to 28, 2024, at the Yasumoto International Academic Park. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the CUHK Entrepreneur Day, and the organizer, CUHK Alumni Affairs Office, hosted a series of grand events to celebrate the occasion.


Our department chairman, Professor Patrick Yung served as a guest speaker at the event. He delivered a lecture titled "金牌後盾—[醫體融合]新機遇". The audience was highly enthusiastic, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.


Mag Med Biotech, a startup company led by Professor Patrick Yung, Professor Ling Qin, and Professor Jerry Xu, won the First runner-up prize in the CUHK Entrepreneurship Competition finals. Mag Med Biotech is dedicated to developing the next generation of magnesium-incorporated medical devices, offering novel therapeutic strategies for musculoskeletal disorders.

 
 
 

 
 

 
 
 


CUHK Sports Medicine Team Co-Organized Sport for All Day 2024

The CUHK Sports Medicine Team was honored to serve as a co-organizer for Sport for All Day, which took place on August 4th, 2024, in collaboration with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD).


The event offered a wide range of free sports and recreation activities at designated LCSD venues across all 18 districts. The main goal was to encourage people of all ages and abilities to participate in regular exercise, highlighting the numerous physical and mental health benefits it provides.


We were also pleased to have alumni participate by giving health talks, demonstrating exercises, and performing motion analyses for attendees. This initiative successfully engaged the community and promoted a commitment to healthy living.

 
 
 

 
 

 
 
 


CUHK Sports Medicine Team Collaborates with Hong Kong Red Cross for World First Aid Day 2024

The CUHK Sports Medicine Team collaborated with the Hong Kong Red Cross for World First Aid Day 2024, themed "First Aid and Sports," at the Hong Kong Red Cross Headquarters on September 14th. This year's focus emphasizes the vital role of first aid in sports, covering everything from injury prevention to emergency care, with the aim of equipping the public with essential first aid knowledge. In addition to various activities, there was a first aid experience zone and booth games related to sports. Our alumni also led warm-up sessions and conducted lower limb dynamic balance tests, highlighting the importance of first aid in daily life and sports-related emergencies.

 
 
 

 
 

 
 
 


Prof Gang Li has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by International Limb Reconstruction Society

In the recent meeting of 6th International Congress of ASAMR-BR and ILLRS, 17-22 September 2024, Beijing, Prof Gang Li has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the International Limb Reconstruction society in recognition for contribution for the research and innovation in the filed of limb reconstruction filed. Prof. Gang Li has been working on the understanding the basic mechanisms of distraction histogenesis and his innovative research work have been well-recognized by international and national colleagues. His latest development is the tibial cortex transverse surgery for the management of severe diabetic ulcers and the use of cranial bone transport surgery for the management of stroke and Alzheimer’s diseases. Prof Li has published more than 60 original research articles, 5 book chapters and 2 books in the filed of distraction histogenesis.


With Prof. Gang Li's retirement from October 2024, this award acknowledges his significant contributions to the field of orthopedic research. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

 
 
 

 
 
 


A warm welcome to Dr Victor Lu as a Clinical Lecturer

Dr Victor Lu completed his medical studies at the University of Cambridge in 2023 and has now joined our department as a clinical lecturer. He has witnessed firsthand and was inspired by how orthopaedic surgery can transform patient’s lives. He has a keen interest in musculoskeletal science and has published over a dozen papers in peer-reviewed medical journals. Additionally, he was actively involved in medical student teaching during his final years at Cambridge and looks forward to engaging with CUHK students in his new role.
