Highlight of the Combined meeting of TOSSM & APKASS in Pattaya, Thailand

The TOSSM-APKASS 2022 Congress was successfully held in Pattaya, Thailand on Sep 28 – Oct 1, 2022. It is the largest arthroscopy-sports medicine meeting in the Asia-Pacific region.

Prof. Patrick Yung, Dr. Michael Ong and Dr. Xin He were the invited speakers and gave presentations in the Congress. The meeting contained all varieties, including symposiums, live demonstrations, workshops and highlight lectures. Experts from across the area gathered and shared their expertise.

 
 

Retirement of
Prof. Shekhar Kumta

Prof. Kumta has been the face of Orthopaedic teaching for decades. As Assistant Dean of Education and a keen bedside teacher, Prof. Kumta’s footprints in undergraduate teaching is vast.

We celebrate his storied career as a surgeon and educator; and wish him all the best in his new adventures.

 

 
 

Sports Medicine in the Community

• Football Medicine Course For Doctors, The Hong Kong Football Medicine Team Physiotherapist Course

The Football Medicine courses were co-organized by CUHK, Hong Kong Football Association and Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science. The courses aim at providing specialised knowledge and skills to medical doctors and physiotherapists, from a perspective of football injury management, pre-competition assessment, rehabilitation and return to play. Participants will be able to work with HKFA Premier League football teams and Hong Kong team as team doctor and team physiotherapist in the future.

 
 
 

 
 
 

• Sports Trainer Courses

Sports Trainers play a critical role in the care of athletes. The Sports Trainer Courses are designed to equip students will practical skills and latest knowledge, to pursue further a career in sports industry. The courses consist of active teaching formats and are highly interactive, students are able to apply the concept learned in lectures outside classrooms.

 
 
 

 
 
 

• CUHK & Kitchee Collaboration Workshop

The first workshop of the CUHK & Kitchee collaboration series has been held on in Jockey Club Kitchee Centre, Shek Mun, on 24 Sep 2022. The workshop shares the benefits of Gym Exercise for Children in the community, with some demonstration provided by our Sports trainer on how to exercise properly in reference to the FIFA 11+ Kids manual.

 
 
 

 
 
 

• Sport For All Day 2022

The “Sport For All Day” aims to promote the benefits of physical activity in the community, a series of free recreational programmes were offered at designated sports centres in 18 districts. Our team organized a series of health talks with exercise demonstrations, and some muscle strength assessments and functional movement screening tests for the public.
